The Christian Home
John Pemberton was a Confederate soldier who sustained a saber wound to the chest in the closing year of the war. After the war ended, he became addicted to morphine which was used to control the pain from his wound. As a pharmacist, he began experimenting with various formulas to find an alternative to morphine and accidentally developed a delicious drink that came to be known as Coca-Cola. He recognized its value and believed that it would become a national drink, but when he realized he was dying from stomach cancer, he decided to sell his secret formula, and it has been one of the best kept secrets of all time. The original recipe is kept in a locked vault with only a handful of people aware of the exact contents and amounts. Before Pemberton’s death, he was able to sell the formula for three hundred dollars, worth less than ten thousand in today’s dollars. However, the development of that formula has resulted in a company that is worth more than eighty-six billion dollars in assets.
In contrast to Coca-Cola’s secret recipe, God has created His own formula for the Christian home. Instead of it being a secret, God chose to include it in the Bible with the hope and intent that anyone and everyone would be willing to seek it out and then implement it into their own homes. This series provides truth after truth concerning God’s plan for the home and how to build a home to the glory of God.
